Job Description University of Miami is seeking a Ophthalmic Technician Level II for a job in Miami Beach, Florida. Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: Ophthalmic Technician - Discipline: Allied Health Professional - Duration: Ongoing - 40 hours per week - Shift: 8 hours - Employment Type: Staff Sign On Bonus $5000 The University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, has an exciting full time opportunity Ophthalmic Technician 2 in Miami, Florida. The Ophthalmic Technician 2 (OT2) is proficient in the theory, principles, and practice of eye care. This position performs appropriate clinical testing in compliance with department standards and documents in the EMR system. JOB FUNCTIONS Performs and documents the following items in the electronic medical record. Reason for visit Chief complaint History of present illness Basic review of systems Review systemic and ocular medications Record allergies Pharmacy information Family, social, medical, and ocular history Visual acuity at distance and near Lensometry Manual refraction Confrontational fields Humphrey visual fields Virtual Reality (VR) visual fields Amsler Grid visual fields Tangent screen visual fields Basic ocular motility Pupillary evaluation Ocular surface assessment Eye drop administration Pachymetry Color vision test Stereopsis test Sensorimotor exam Automated & manual perimetry Insertion and removal of hard & soft contact lenses Intraocular pressure such as Goldman, Tono-Pen, and I-Care Provides support to providers which includes documentation in patient charts as required and directed for patient care. Provides patient-centric care. Complies with regulations and maintains patient confidentiality. Follows best practices of patient safety, hand hygiene, and infection control. Attends educational courses for ophthalmic personnel when assigned. Demonstrates high quality of work through accuracy, timeliness, professionalism, and thoroughness. Meets daily productivity goals. Maintains JCAHPO certifications. Ensures all equipment is calibrated and instrumentation is in proper working order. Participates in assigned clinical research and maintains required certifications. Organizes and stocks rooms for daily clinical activities. Travels to satellite eye centers when necessary. Works evenings and weekends as needed. Performs organizational duties as assigned. Completes IVI (intravitreal injection) prep for patients. Facilitates motility exams. Supports Virtual Care encounters and exams. Performs imaging including but not limited to fundus photos, OCTs, and Slit Lamp exams. Assists with training and onboarding clinical support staff. Acts as a super-user for technology implementations, optimizations, and training initiatives. Acts as preceptor and trainer for team members. Serves as a lead technician providing oversight to clinical teams when assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School diploma or equivalent Required Certification and Licensing: Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) Experience: 2 years of relevant experience Knowledge, Skill, and Attitudes: Works well with patients of all age groups. Presents with a professional appearance. Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing. Demonstrates outstanding interpersonal skills. Analyzes, organizes, prioritizes, and meets deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Completes assignments accurately and with attention to detail. Seeks instruction in areas that require additional knowledge. Works independently and in a collaborative environment. Displays intermediate knowledge of ocular anatomy, function, and motility. Exhibits ability to perform the appropriate patient workup using EMR telehealth platform. Demonstrates competency in all ophthalmic subspecialty patient workups. Prepares patients for intravitreal injections. Ability to function as an ophthalmic scribe. Proficient in Microsoft Office.
